Nora blinked in confusion. "What do you mean?"
The corners of Hudson's lips curled into a faint smile, his voice unhurried as he explained. "That circle isn't meant for ordinary people. The kids in that school are backed by the most powerful families in San Francisco. Whether sending Xavier into that environment is a blessing or a curse is hard to say..."
Nora understood instantly.
It wasn't just a school; it was an entire social echelon.
If Xavier went in, he would either be accepted by that circle or ground into dust by it.
And the Reed family certainly couldn't afford the second outcome.
"I'll talk to Xavi about it," Nora said. "If he still wants to go, I'll bother you then."
"Alright," Hudson hummed in agreement, his voice warm. "Let's go. I'll drop you back at the office."
...
Meanwhile, at the Reed family estate.
Penelope hung up the phone and turned to Marcus Reed, who was sitting on the sofa, a triumphant smile beaming on her face. "She agreed. She said she'd figure it out."
Marcus frowned. "You were way too careless on the phone just now. Calling her Nora left and right. What if Hudson heard you?"
"It just slipped out..." Penelope moved to sit beside him, wrapping her arms around his affectionately.
Marcus pressed his lips into a tight line. "Speaking of which, this is all Jade's fault. When she gets back, I'm going to break her legs!"
"Oh, honey, don't be like that." Penelope swayed his arm gently. "Jade is still young and foolish. You really can't blame her for running away from the wedding. You heard the rumors about Mr. Lancaster. They were marrying her off to a dying man to ward off bad luck. Did you really want your daughter to become a widow at her age?"
Marcus furrowed his brow. "But when I saw Hudson recently, he looked perfectly fine..."
"He's definitely faking it," Penelope said, her tone filled with absolute certainty. "I subtly asked Nora the other day. They haven't even slept together yet..."
Marcus opened his mouth, but ended up letting out a long sigh. "Ah, it's just a shame for Nora, that poor girl..."
Chloe lowered her voice. "The producer looked furious. He said if this keeps up, they're going to have to pull the plug on the collaboration."
Nora frowned and picked up her pace, heading straight for the practice rooms.
At the end of the hallway, the door to Leo's exclusive practice room was tightly shut.
Two people were standing outside. One was the show's co-producer, a balding man in his forties who was sweating profusely, looking both humiliated and enraged.
The other was his young female assistant, who was clutching a stack of folders, looking completely lost.
"Leo, please just open the door. We just need to go over the competition rules real quick. It won't take much of your time..." the producer begged, pasting on a strained smile as he knocked.
Dead silence from inside.
The producer knocked again, his face turning an ugly shade of red.
He was a seasoned veteran in the industry who had produced two blockbuster hit reality shows. People practically threw rose petals at his feet wherever he went.
