Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 509

"Hudson!"

"Mr. Lancaster!"

Nora and Liam screamed in absolute horror, throwing themselves forward to catch him, panic radiating from their bones.

Meanwhile, Dr. Vane stood safely to the side, grinning and clapping his hands as if watching a magic trick go perfectly according to plan.

At the exact same moment, Arthur, Archer, and Olive, who had been standing guard in the hallway, heard the screams and kicked the heavy doors open. They burst into the suite, their eyes immediately locking onto Hudson, whose chest was covered in dark blood.

"What happened to the boss?!" Arthur and Archer sprinted toward the sofa.

"Oh, relax, you're all overreacting!" Dr. Vane scoffed lazily, standing up. "He's not gonna die..."

Olive realized precisely who the architect of this disaster was. Her pupils shrank to pinpricks. She cleared the room in three massive strides, and while Dr. Vane was still sporting his victorious grin, she grabbed his collar, pivoted, and slammed the old man into the floor with a flawless judo throw.

"What the hell did you just feed him?!"

The impact knocked the wind clean out of Dr. Vane. He felt like his spine had shattered into dust. He threw his hands up in frantic surrender. "Wait! Wait! Stand down! It's a standard detox reaction! Purging the dead blood is the whole point!"

Olive wasn't hearing a word of it. She pinned him to the floor, raising her fists to unleash a merciless flurry of punches. "He's puking up his own internal organs and you're telling me it's a good thing?!"

"It is! It is! The toxin was barricading his heart valves! That pill was essentially dynamite—it blasted the blockage open! The blood had to go somewhere!"

Dr. Vane screamed, his voice cracking by a full octave. Seeing Olive's knuckles descending toward his face, he covered his head and shrieked, "Ask him yourself! He knows it worked!"

Olive's fist was fully cocked, driven by pure rage. "Bullshit! You're a dead man!"

"Stop."

His fury evaporated in a millisecond. He choked back his tirade, swallowed hard, and snatched the paper with a blinding smile. "Hey, water under the bridge! Misunderstandings happen! We're all friends here!"

Olive: "..."

The man had zero principles.

Dr. Vane meticulously folded the million-dollar check and tucked it deep into his pocket, guarding it as if it might sprout legs and run away.

Liam quickly stepped forward. "Doctor, let me show you to your room so you can rest."

Dr. Vane shot one final, haughty huff at Olive before clasping his hands behind his back and swaggering toward the exit.

But right as they crossed the threshold, Dr. Vane paused, suddenly remembering a critical detail. "By the way, I forgot to mention. Your boss is rotting from the inside out. The poison is rooted directly in his organs. My pill only put it to sleep. If he didn't have a constitution made of iron, he would've dropped dead weeks ago."
