Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 475

Archer had barely stepped into the courtyard after escorting the Reeds out when he heard Olive's boisterous voice echoing from the backyard.

"Hey, hey, hey! Archer! Why did you only buy vegetables? Are we feeding rabbits here? Where's the meat?! Where's the meat!?"

Archer rubbed his ringing ears and quickened his pace toward the back.

On the lawn, a brand-new barbecue grill was already set up. A small table beside it held rows of seasonings neatly lined up—oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, chili powder, and cumin.

A folding camping table was practically overflowing with a colorful array of vegetables.

But there wasn't a single piece of meat in sight.

"Olive, how could we have a barbecue without meat? It's all in the fridge. You guys weren't back yet, and I didn't want it to spoil by leaving it out. Everything is already skewered and waiting in the kitchen fridge. Go grab it."

"You got it!"

Olive's expression flipped instantly. She skipped her way toward the living room.

She headed straight to the kitchen, yanked open the refrigerator, and found a dozen plates of neatly arranged meat skewers.

She immediately gathered the towering stack of plates in her arms, bumped the fridge door shut with her shoulder, and happily strutted out. As she passed the living room, she noticed two maids cleaning the sofa.

They were grumbling as they worked. "Is Penelope losing her hair or what? She only sat here for a little bit, and she shed this much. Look at this clump—it's more than I lose in a month."

The other maid leaned in and tutted. "Tell me about it. She leaves a trail wherever she sits. I'm going to have to run the vacuum over the rug again, or we'll be stepping on her hair tomorrow."

"Our Madam never sheds like this. Her hair is thick and dark, like spun silk..."

Olive was about to keep walking when something suddenly clicked in her brain. She stopped dead in her tracks.

Balancing the stack of skewers, she turned around and locked eyes on the clump of hair the maid was about to toss into the trash.

"Wait."

The maid jumped. "Ms. O'Neil, what's wrong?"

Olive didn't answer right away. She narrowed her eyes as an old suspicion resurfaced in her mind.

She always felt that someone as awful as Penelope could never have given birth to someone as beautiful as their Madam.

Watching the maid tuck the tissue-wrapped bundle into the drawer as instructed, Olive happily marched outside with her haul.

When she found the time, she was absolutely going to run a secret DNA test.

But for now...

The meat took priority!

...

Out in the backyard, Archer had already fired up the charcoal. The flames danced wildly, radiating a wave of intense heat that could be felt from several feet away.

Olive dropped the skewers onto the table, dusted off her hands, and grinned. "Let's get this party started!"

Soon, the mouth-watering aroma of barbecue drifted across the entire estate.

The meat sizzled on the hot grill, the dripping juices hitting the blazing charcoal and sending up thick, savory plumes of white smoke.
