Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 47

Edmond looked equally horrified, unable to believe his own ears.

She got her hearing back?

"Nora..."

Edmond instinctively reached out to grab Nora's hand.

But Nora took a half-step back, avoiding his touch completely.

This was the man she had once been ready to risk everything for. Now, just the thought of him touching her made her sick to her stomach.

It turned out that when enough disappointment piled up, falling out of love was devastatingly simple.

Edmond's expression hardened, panic flashing across his face as he remembered what Juliette had just confessed. "Nora, let me explain..."

"Explain what?"

Nora cut him off. "Explain how you swore you wanted to kill her, while you were secretly fooling around with her? Or explain how you treated me like an idiot and lied to my face for two whole years?"

Her voice remained perfectly steady, not even raising in volume.

But every word felt like an ice-cold blade.

Edmond swallowed hard. "It's not what you think..."

"What exactly am I thinking?"

Nora let out a cold laugh. "I heard every single word you two just said. Would you like me to repeat it back to you?"

It was as if something was lodged in Edmond's throat. He opened his mouth, but no sound came out.

Nora didn't look at him again. She spun on her heel to leave.

Edmond snatched her wrist. "Nora, this isn't the place to talk. Come back with me, and we'll discuss it..."

"What, are you embarrassed? You weren't embarrassed when you were fooling around with your adopted sister, were you?"

Edmond froze, his brow instantly furrowing. Clearly losing his temper, his voice dropped ominously. "Watch your mouth, Nora."

Nora scoffed. "My mouth? Why? Do you want me to scream out everything she just said?"

Edmond's frown deepened. "It was a misunderstanding! Juliette was just being immature and threw herself at me. I pushed her away immediately!"

"Immature?"

Nora shot a freezing glare at Juliette. "That day at the club, you told me Juliette had matured so much. What? Did you forget already?"

Edmond was stunned for a second before his brain caught up. "You... you had your hearing back then? Why didn't you tell me? Did you hide it just so you could pull this stunt today?"

He wanted to run after her.

But his feet felt nailed to the pavement, refusing to move.

A tidal wave of unprecedented panic crashed over him, making it almost impossible to breathe.

What was he supposed to do?

Nora was...

This time, it seemed she was truly furious with him.

...

The HR department was on the tenth floor.

As the elevator doors opened, a blast of air conditioning washed over her.

Nora took a deep breath, scrubbing the filthy encounter downstairs completely out of her mind.

"Hi, I'm the new talent manager, Nora... Jade. Jade Reed."

The receptionist, who was touching up her lipstick, looked up at the sound of her voice. Her eyes lingered on Nora's face for a couple of seconds, a flash of pure awe passing through them.
