Silas's eyes lit up as he immediately grasped the implication.
"Brilliant move, Uncle Lawrence!"
"Save the flattery," Lawrence said, dropping his hands. "Go get him, and make it quick. Don't draw any attention."
Silas agreed profusely and hurried out of the lounge.
The moment the door clicked shut behind him, the smug smile vanished completely from Lawrence's face.
"Hudson, don't blame your uncle for being ruthless."
He muttered to himself in a raspy, low voice.
He knew better than anyone that Hudson was living on borrowed time.
However, waiting for him to die naturally would probably take another year or two.
At his age, he didn't have the patience for that.
So he had no choice but to speed up the process and send him to the grave himself.
Lawrence let out a soft sigh, murmuring with mock sympathy, "But don't worry. Once you're gone, I'll send her right after you. That way, you won't be lonely on the other side. It's the least I can do given how much you adore her..."
...
By seven o'clock, the entirety of Lancaster Hall was brilliantly illuminated, with lights strung up in every corner of the courtyard.
The evening gala had finally hit its peak.
Since Mrs. Lancaster Sr. had a deep appreciation for Classical Italian Opera, an opera troupe had set up a stage in the afternoon, their melodic arias echoing through the estate.
Though Nora wasn't exactly an expert in Classical Italian Opera, music was universally connected. She could tell the performers on stage were elite vocalists, their masterful crescendos and dramatic flourishes creating a genuinely uplifting atmosphere.
She was completely engrossed in the performance when Grant suddenly remarked, "The Fairchild Family has arrived..."
They all followed his line of sight.
Trailing behind Finnian was another woman dressed in a sleek black gown, her hair swept up in an elegant updo that highlighted a breathtakingly radiant face.
Her features were striking and bold, yet she carried a cool, unapproachable aura. Standing near Liana, she looked like a vibrant, blooming rose, effectively reducing Liana to the appearance of a plain background character.
Grant clicked his tongue. "See that? Bringing her even to a grand gala like this. That's definitely the legendary 'mobile blood bank' girlfriend."
Remembering the gossip from the yacht yesterday, Nora couldn't help but take a closer look at the woman.
But as her gaze locked onto the woman's face, she suddenly froze.
This person...
Why did she look so familiar?
