Nora cried in Hudson's arms for what felt like an eternity.
She couldn't even remember when her sobbing had finally faded.
Exhausted, she leaned against his chest, her eyes swollen and her nose flushed pink, occasionally letting out a soft hiccup.
She hadn't noticed while she was venting her emotions, but now that the tears had stopped, she realized the front of Hudson's shirt was completely drenched.
A wave of embarrassment washed over her.
Just as she was trying to figure out how to excuse her breakdown, the man's thumb gently brushed over the tear stains at the corner of her eyes. "Feeling better?"
Nora offered a muffled hum, burying her face deeper into his chest, unwilling to let him see what a total wreck she looked like.
But Hudson didn't let her hide. He cupped her face with both hands, softly wiping her damp cheeks.
"Do you want to get out of the house for a bit?"
Nora lifted her puffy eyes to look at him.
Hudson's voice was low, carrying a rare tenderness that even he hadn't fully realized. "I just bought a new yacht. I haven't taken it out yet. Let's go for a ride and clear your head."
Nora knew a change of scenery was exactly what she needed.
But she hesitated. "Tomorrow is the Grand Matriarch's Gala. Is it really a good time for us to be going out to sea?"
"My grandmother's birthday has absolutely nothing to do with our plans."
Hudson tapped the tip of her nose. "In this whole world, my wife comes first."
Heat flared in Nora's ears at his words, but the heavy gloom pressing on her heart instantly lifted.
She nodded. "Okay."
The corner of Hudson's mouth tipped up into a smile. He pressed a lingering kiss to her forehead. "Go change. We're leaving now."
"Mhm."
...
Grant was wearing a loud, flashy designer shirt and a pair of sunglasses, a carefree smirk plastered on his handsome face. Two staff members trailed behind him, loaded down with grocery bags and supplies.
Sebastian followed closely, flashing a bright grin as he waved at Nora. "Nora, great to see you again!"
"What are you two doing here?" Hudson asked, his brow furrowing in annoyance.
"Come on, Boss, don't be like that."
Grant pulled off his sunglasses, clicking his tongue. "The ink on your sailing clearance wasn't even dry before we heard about it. A yacht this huge? It'd be way too boring with just you two. We're here to liven up the party."
"We're not just freeloading," Sebastian chimed in seriously. "We brought top-shelf liquor, prime cuts of meat, and all the gear. We can fire up the grill on the deck later."
Gesturing to the loaded bags the staff were carrying, Sebastian turned his attention to Nora. "Ever been deep-sea fishing, Nora?"
Nora immediately shook her head.
"Grant will teach you later. He's totally useless at business, but he's a master at screwing around and having a good time."
Nora couldn't help but laugh.
