"Nora was the one who called the cops! She's the reason you spent fifteen years in prison..."
"Enough, save your breath." Arnold reached out and patted her cheek condescendingly. "I'm giving you three days. One million dollars, and not a penny less. I want it in cash."
"Three days? How is that even possible? I can't get that kind of money..."
Arnold's voice darkened. "That sounds like a you problem. If I don't see the cash in three days, I'll pay your husband a visit. We can have a nice, long chat about our history."
All the color vanished from Penelope's face.
"You... you wouldn't dare!"
"What makes you think I wouldn't?" Arnold flashed a sinister grin. "Tell me, if your husband found out about our little secret, how do you think he'd react?"
Penelope's lips quivered, unable to form a single word.
Arnold patted her cheek one last time. "Three days. Remember, not a minute longer."
Watching him walk away, Penelope felt her legs give out. She leaned heavily against the wall, gasping for air, her back soaked in cold sweat.
She didn't notice the silhouette crouching behind the nearby bushes.
Jade covered her mouth, her eyes wide with sheer disbelief.
She had followed Penelope outside to demand that she buy her something specific.
She never expected to overhear such an explosive secret!
She knew it! The last time she saw that man, something felt off.
He wasn't some distant cousin at all!
He was Penelope's ex-husband.
Nora's biological father!
A man who had just served fifteen years in prison.
A slow, malicious smile spread across Jade's face. The movement tugged at the healing wounds around her mouth, making her wince, but she didn't care about the pain.
She needed to carefully plan exactly how to use this leverage...
Nora!
You're dead meat!
Before the twins could even lay a finger on Nora, the massive momentum hurled them out of the vehicle. They tumbled fifteen feet across the concrete, rolling violently before finally managing to stabilize themselves.
"Madam, are you hurt?"
The SUV door swung open, and Arthur vaulted out from the driver's seat.
Nora shook her head, still reeling from the shock. "I'm fine."
Arthur quickly scanned her over. Satisfied that she was unharmed, he stepped aside and opened the rear door.
"Get in the car, Madam."
Nora didn't hesitate, ducking quickly into the backseat.
As the heavy door thumped shut, she finally let out a long breath, her fingertips trembling slightly.
Outside the tinted windows, the twins had already scrambled to their feet.
They rolled their shoulders, their joints popping loudly in the tense silence, before aiming a dark smirk at Arthur.
"Two against one. What, you think you can actually walk away with her?"
