He leaned against the bathroom wall, his posture entirely relaxed, revealing a broad, glistening expanse of his chest.

"Darling."

Nora's cheeks flushed, a sudden heat rushing to her ears.

"Are you about to take a shower? I'll let you go, then."

"Don't hang up," the man's voice was gravelly and low. "Keep me company for a bit."

Nora's heart softened at his tone. She pulled the covers up, hiding the lower half of her face. "What do you want to talk about?"

"Anything," he murmured lazily, his voice washing over her like a warm tide. "Tell me about when you were a little girl."

Nora blinked. Her childhood was...

Well, there wasn't much worth mentioning.

As she hesitated, she finally noticed the steam rising through the screen.

She suddenly realized Hudson was taking a cold shower.

A dull ache of affection tightened her chest. She slowly opened her mouth, "I grew up in Northampton. Right outside my house, there was an Old Locust Tree. Every summer, my friends and I would gather the sweet blossoms to bake treats..."

Her voice was soft and sweet, flowing like a gentle, melodic stream.

"Maybe because of that, I was really popular in the neighborhood. All the kids wanted to play with me..."

Hudson's lips curved into a smile as he listened. He knew that wasn't the real reason.

Hudson let out a low chuckle.

"You didn't just drag him home because you had a crush on his handsome face, did you?"

Nora glared at him. Unfortunately, muffled by the blankets and separated by a screen, her glare lost all its heat.

She had just poured her heart out, and the only thing he took away from it was that the boy was 'handsome'.

Wasn't she supposed to be the merciful savior in this story?

Hudson reached for a bathrobe, shrugging it on and tying the belt loosely around his waist before stepping out of the bathroom.

The camera shifted. On the screen, the man lounged on the sofa. His robe fell open, exposing his chest. Droplets of water traced the hard, sculpted ridges of his muscles before disappearing into the dark fabric, radiating an untamed, seductive masculinity...
