Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 108

For some reason, the dynamic between the two men felt incredibly bizarre, though Nora couldn't put her finger on why.

She shook her head, pushing her suspicions aside, and stepped out of the way. "Liam, Dr. Dalton, please have a seat."

The four of them settled around the table.

A server quietly poured tea and slipped out, closing the door behind them.

A heavy silence descended upon the room.

Nora was the first to speak.

"Liam, regarding what we discussed on the phone..."

Liam quickly set down his teacup. "Right, Ms. Reed. Regarding your intimacy anxiety, I've put together a preliminary..."

Nora interrupted gently. "Liam, this is actually for... my friend."

Liam: "..."

For the boss?

Did he have a death wish?

If he had known the 'friend' was Hudson Lancaster, wild horses couldn't have dragged him here...

Liam instinctively glanced at Hudson.

The man was leaning back in his chair, lazily spinning a porcelain teacup in his hand, his face an unreadable mask.

But the occasional glances he shot Liam were absolutely chilling.

"..."

Liam opened his mouth, then shut it again.

His brain was working in overdrive.

Nora didn't know his relationship with Hudson. She certainly didn't know that six months ago, Hudson had personally dispatched him to Northampton to treat her hearing.

In her eyes, she was simply asking a doctor to evaluate her partner.

It made perfect sense.

The problem was...

"Do you want to hear Mr. Lancaster's psychological evaluation?"

Nora instantly realized the makeup excuse was a cover. "Please, Dr. Dalton. Tell me."

Leona pressed her lips together. "Honestly, I couldn't get a read on him."

Nora stared in shock. "What do you mean?"

Leona looked at her grimly. "Mr. Lancaster's mental defenses are dozens of times higher than a normal person's. He has a master's-level grasp of psychology. If I ask him ten questions, he expertly dodges nine. And the answer to the tenth is meticulously fabricated."

She paused, her tone laced with heavy exhaustion.

"I tried laying several psychological traps to gauge his true emotional baseline. Not only did he sidestep every single one, he seamlessly set two traps of his own. If Liam hadn't interrupted, he would have totally psychoanalyzed me."

Nora swallowed hard. "So... you couldn't figure out anything about his condition?"

Leona fell silent for a moment. "I wouldn't say that. He deflected me brilliantly, but some things can't be hidden."

She turned to face Nora fully.

"Mr. Lancaster's current mental state is incredibly dangerous."
