The more Stella thought about it, the less she believed there had ever been any real connection between Summer and General Litt.
If there had been, why had Summer never used it when Stella had her cornered in Harbor City?
But if there was no connection, then why was Litt going to such extremes now?
Remi shook her head.
“We still haven’t found anything. I don’t understand what that old man had to do with Summer either.”
“Neither do I.”
The two of them had appeared to have nothing in common.
Back in Harbor City, there had not been the slightest indication that their lives had ever crossed.
Yet after Stella came to Eirden, Litt had suddenly begun demanding Summer.
His involvement had made Felix and Aaron protect her together.
And now he even wanted Stella dead.
What kind of history could possibly exist between them?
“Honestly, I don’t think it matters anymore,” Remi said. “Summer is already dead.”
When Summer had been alive and protected, she had never missed an opportunity to flaunt it in Stella’s face.
But now she was gone.
What else was there to worry about?
When Stella remained silent, Remi added, “Besides, we’re going to take that old man out anyway.”
As far as Remi was concerned, whatever connection Litt had shared with Summer was no longer important.
“That’s true,” Stella said.
But something still bothered her.
“I’m worried there may be more to this than we know.”
It had been the same with Felix and Aaron before.
At first, Stella had not understood why both men suddenly took Summer’s side.
She had never imagined that something so significant was happening behind the scenes.
“I’ll investigate more thoroughly,” Remi said.
Now that Stella had raised the possibility, Remi agreed that they could not afford to ignore it.
If there was another hidden factor, it could cause them serious trouble.
General Litt was proof enough of that.
