She was serious.
Evan did not believe for a second that Stella was bluffing.
“You know I…”
“You’d better not try to force me,” Stella cut in. “Otherwise, by the time you send me back, I won’t be breathing. And if Aaron receives my body, he’ll wipe out the entire Wright family.”
Aaron’s attitude toward her while she was alive might be heartbreaking.
But if she truly returned dead, that would be a different matter entirely.
How he treated her alive was one thing.
How he reacted to her death would be another.
Evan’s chest tightened beneath the weight of her threat.
He did not doubt that Stella would truly go that far.
And he did not dare force her.
Stella left.
Once Evan was alone, he irritably lit another cigarette and took two hard drags.
No one knew how suffocating the pressure inside him had become.
He felt as though he were losing his mind.
Stella had not asked him to send Fiona back to prison.
She wanted Fiona dead.
Both Fiona and Yara were his sisters.
Stella had truly given him an impossible choice.
No one could make a decision like that easily.
When Amos came in, he found Evan smoking.
Clearly, he and Stella had argued again.
It would have been stranger if they had not.
Amos had no desire to deal with him and headed straight for the door.
“Tell Ivy to go find her,” Evan said.
“What for?”
The moment Evan mentioned sending Ivy after Stella, Amos’s voice filled with suspicion.
What was he trying to pull?
There was no need to guess.
His conversation with Stella had fallen apart, so now he wanted Ivy to persuade her.
