Chapter 870
All this time, they had been trying to figure out why Felix was protecting Summer so fiercely.
Yet the possibility of some great lost love had never even crossed their minds.
Because in their eyes, Felix simply was not that kind of man.
“Where is this woman now?” Jennifer asked.
“She’s dead.”
Jennifer went silent.
Dead.
That only made things worse.
Who wanted to compete with someone who was no longer alive?
Even so, Jennifer still did not believe it.
She simply could not imagine Felix carrying a torch for anyone, living or dead.
“Don’t let some half-baked story mislead you,” Jennifer said. “Felix doesn’t seem like the kind of man who would lose a reason over a woman who died years ago.”
From an outsider’s perspective, the way he was protecting Summer certainly looked irrational.
But Jennifer was convinced this could not simply be about a woman.
There had to be something deeper behind it.
Stella said nothing.
“Your life has gotten unbelievably complicated,” Jennifer continued. “Ever since you returned to Eirden, one thing after another has come to light.”
“Tell me about it.”
“If you ask me, I’d sooner believe he’s protecting Summer because of some vested interest than because of a lost love.”
Stella fell silent.
A vested interest?
What could Felix possibly stand to gain by protecting Summer so fiercely?
And why was it important enough for him to hide the truth from her?
If that was really the reason, why couldn’t he simply tell her?
When Stella did not respond, Jennifer asked, “So what are you going to do when Felix demands Summer back?”
Felix was the kind of man who never stopped until he got what he wanted.
Especially now.
Even with Stella standing against him, he had not backed down at all.
She certainly was not going to indulge Felix now.
“I saw Evan,” Stella said.
“He actually dared to come see you?”
“Yes.”
Then, after a brief pause, Stella added, “I’m planning to go to Ravaria.”
“When?” Jennifer asked immediately. “Will the Hogarth family even let you leave?”
The moment she heard it, she understood why Stella wanted to go.
Ever since returning to Eirden, Stella had been surrounded by one crisis after another.
Jennifer would not have known how to handle any of it either.
“Whether they approve or not, I’m leaving,” Stella said. “Jennifer, I desperately need some time alone to think.”
She wanted to go somewhere without Evan.
Without Felix.
Without the Hogarth family.
Jennifer understood that feeling completely.
