Eliza looked at him coldly, her eyes utterly devoid of warmth.
It was as if she were looking at a deranged stranger.
"Zander, this is my private residence."
"You trespassed first, and now you are attempting assault."
"We are getting divorced very soon. If you get thrown into a jail cell right now, am I supposed to wait another month for you?"
"You can rot in a prison cell for all I care, but do not waste my time."
As if that were not enough, Eliza drove the knife deeper. "And I am not standing here because I am afraid you will hurt him. I am afraid you will dirty his hands. I am also afraid a rabid dog like you will drag innocent people down for no reason!"
At that moment, a hand gently grasped Eliza's shoulder.
With undeniable firmness, the hand gently pulled Eliza behind him.
Julian shielded Eliza completely under his wing, his tall frame entirely blocking Zander's view of her.
A cold smirk touched the corner of Julian's lips.
"Mr. Roth."
"Screaming and throwing punches in front of a lady... is this the extent of your upbringing?"
"Also, let me correct you on one thing. Eliza was not protecting me. She was simply teaching you how an adult maintains their dignity."
Zander watched Eliza stand obediently behind Julian. There was no trace of resistance in her posture, and she did not even spare him a second glance.
"Eliza..." Zander suddenly let out a tragic laugh.
He stumbled back two steps, his smile looking far more agonizing than tears.
"Fine. I, Zander Roth, brought this humiliation upon myself today!"
He stared at Eliza one last time.
Then, he turned and blindly stumbled toward the stairwell.
He pushed hard through the emergency exit door and vanished.
Once he was gone, Gwen dramatically patted her chest and rolled her eyes, breaking the heavy silence first.
"Oh my god, is that guy's brain completely defective? He is a walking anger management crisis! Thank god you woke up, Eliza, or who knows, you might have ended up a victim of domestic violence!"
Eliza's tightly wound nerves finally relaxed.
Her heart felt incredibly bitter. When exactly did Zander become like this?
She remembered the bright, cheerful boy he used to be.
She rubbed her temples. Whatever, it did not matter anymore.
