Zander closed the distance in a few massive strides. He had come looking for Eliza, only to find Yvonne and Julian here as well.

He stared dead at Eliza, his voice sharp and demanding. "What did you just say?"

"Eliza, you better explain yourself right now. What baby? Whose baby?"

Seeing that Zander only had eyes for Eliza, a frantic flash of jealousy and panic tore through Yvonne's gaze.

Just as Eliza opened her mouth to speak, Yvonne let out a piercing shriek.

"Zander!"

With lightning reflexes, she cut off whatever Eliza was about to say, throwing herself recklessly into Zander's arms.

"Zander! You're here! I was so scared!"

Yvonne sobbed flawlessly, crying a river of tears. She held up her bandaged hand, looking utterly pathetic. "Look at my hand! They broke my fingers! It hurts so much!"

Zander ignored her entirely. His eyes remained locked on Eliza. "Answer me!"

Eliza stared back at him, her heart already so shattered that all she felt was a terrifying, hollow numbness.

But Yvonne refused to give them a second to breathe.

She wrapped her arms tightly around Zander's waist, burying her face directly into his chest.

"Zander, don't believe a word she says! She's out of her mind!"

Crying hysterically, Yvonne played the victim first, her voice thick with choked, wronged sobs.

"I came here out of the goodness of my heart. I just wanted to tell her we were getting married and hoped she would bless us. But what did she do?"

Yvonne turned her head, looking at Eliza with absolute terror in her eyes.

"She's jealous of us! Not only did she order someone to beat me, but she also cursed us! She said we would never be able to have children!"

"Zander, what did I do wrong? Why does she hate me so much? Is it just because I love you?"

Zander's mind had been reeling from the mention of a baby, but hearing Yvonne's explanation brought a cold scoff to his lips.

The guilt that had been weighing on him since last night completely evaporated under Yvonne's tearful claims.

His gaze darted back and forth between Eliza and Yvonne.

"Eliza..." Zander's tone dropped to a freezing register.
