The moment the thought crossed her mind, Eliza's heart turned cold.
She had finally woken up and refused to have any more ties with him.
No matter how tempting the job was, if Zander was behind it, she would reject it without hesitation.
She would rather remain a nobody forever than accept his patronizing charity.
With that in mind, she pulled out her phone and dialed Zander's number.
He picked up almost instantly.
"Eliza?" Zander's voice was filled with unrestrained surprise and excitement.
"You finally called me."
Eliza cut straight to the point, her tone flat.
"Where are you?"
"I'm at home, I took the day off," Zander's tone instantly softened.
"It's pouring outside. Are you off work? Wait there, I'll come pick you up."
His eager, fawning attitude only annoyed her.
She cut him off. "No need. I just wanted to ask you, what do you think about my recent work?"
She wanted to test the waters first.
Zander clearly hesitated on the other end.
He seemed puzzled by the question.
But after a pause, his tone turned entirely dismissive.
"Eliza, I saw your dance video. You danced well. But you're not a kid anymore, and your leg hasn't fully healed. You shouldn't be out showing your face in public like that."
His voice carried his usual self-righteous arrogance.
"Listen to me, quit that job at the center and stop posting things online. Just stay at home comfortably, and I'll take care of you. Doesn't that sound nice?"
Hearing this, the tension in Eliza's chest instantly dissipated.
It seemed he really had nothing to do with this; she had been overthinking it.
