Left for Dead Came Back for Everything novel Chapter 32

Zander didn't look back, his tone filled with obsessive determination. "Keep searching. I'll cover whatever funding you need. Find her, no matter the cost."

The captain furrowed his brows, his voice softening with pity. "Mr. Roth, please face reality. It's been thirty-six hours since Ms. Shaw fell into the ocean. The water temperature last night was near freezing. A normal person wouldn't last thirty minutes before going into hypothermic shock. Furthermore, based on witness accounts and your own description, Ms. Shaw had a severe leg injury and was physically exhausted before she fell."

The captain paused, bracing himself to deliver the final verdict. "Medically and practically speaking, there is absolutely no chance of her surviving. I am so sorry for your loss."

Before the man could finish, Zander shot up from the ground, grabbing the captain by the collar and shoving him hard against a nearby rock.

"Say that again! Who gave you the right to tell me that!"

Zander's handsome face twisted into an unrecognizable mask of fury.

"She's not dead! She's too proud to die! She's just mad at me. She's hiding to punish me! You useless cowards can't find her, so you dare to curse her?"

A sharp, resounding slap echoed out, striking Zander with such force that he tumbled back onto the sand.

Gwen, who had arrived unnoticed, stood before him trembling, her eyes swollen and red.

"Zander! Are you out of your mind? What right do you have to yell at anyone?"

She pointed a finger directly at him, tears streaming down her face.

Her voice pierced the air. "You killed her! It was you!"

"I didn't..." Zander instinctively tried to argue, but his lips merely trembled without forming another word.

Gwen let out a bitter, furious laugh, throwing a handful of soaked papers right in his face.

"During the earthquake, you chose that manipulative bitch. You destroyed Eliza's leg and ruined her dancing career! Fine, we accepted that! But what about yesterday? Right in this very ocean, Eliza was just a few feet away from you! You could have easily pulled her up first, but what did you do?"

Gwen stepped closer, grabbing him by the collar and forcing him to look out at the dark water. "Once again, right in front of her, you held that slut! Zander, you broke her completely!"

"Stop... please stop talking..." Zander covered his ears in agony, curling into a ball as a desperate sob escaped his throat.
