"Isn't your brother's life worth anything? Those people were going to chop off his fingers!"
"I'll call the police."
"What police! If you call the police, we'll have a criminal record! How is Miles supposed to find a job then!"
"I said, I'll call the police," Eliza repeated. "If Miles's life is so precious, let the cops save him. Don't ever come to me again."
"You just wait! I'm telling you, Eliza—I'm going to your office and asking your boss—"
Eliza hung up.
She placed the phone on the coffee table and unconsciously rubbed her left knee.
It didn't hurt.
It wasn't hurting today.
She looked down at her hands, her fingertips still carrying the residual scent of the medicinal oil she had used to massage her leg.
It was the prescription from Julian's sister, provided by the old doctor.
She opened her palm, then closed it.
Never mind.
When there's an endless list of things to handle, you tackle them one by one.
Just as she was about to reopen her tablet and get back to work, her phone vibrated again.
It wasn't Miriam.
It was an unknown number, saved as "*Fragrant Moon* Assistant Director - Zoe Wyatt".
Eliza glanced at it and didn't reply.
This was already her second time reaching out.
She had ignored the last message too—what was this nonsense about "aligning the action styles"? Different projects, different investors, not even the same creative team. What style was there to align?
She set the phone aside and continued annotating her storyboards on the tablet.
Ten minutes later, the phone buzzed again.
Zoe again.
This time, it was a very long block of text.
