Left for Dead Came Back for Everything novel Chapter 144

...

Miriam locked her eyes on Zander's back and plastered on an enthusiastic smile.

She abandoned the billing clerk she had just been yelling at, her worn-out leather shoes shuffling into a jog as she pushed past the queue, rushing forward to catch up.

"Zander!"

Miriam's voice was loud and piercing, cutting straight through the din of the registration lobby.

"Zander!"

Zander's hands paused on the wheelchair handles.

He turned around.

Miriam darted right in front of him. She grabbed the armrest of the wheelchair, blocking their path.

The aggressive face that had been throwing a tantrum at the counter a second ago was now perfectly replaced by a mask of utter despair.

Tears flooded out like a broken dam.

Snot mixed with spit, covering her face.

"Oh, Zander! I finally found you!" Miriam cried, her face a mess as she reached out to grab Zander's sleeve.

"Did you know—your father-in-law is lying in a bed upstairs! I'm so worried I can't even eat, I've lost so much weight!"

She sobbed uncontrollably, her voice rising to a volume that could be heard at the end of the hallway:

"Did you know your brother-in-law is being chased by guys threatening to chop off his hands? He's the only son of the Shaw family! He's Eliza's biological brother! Zander, can you please help us—just have a little pity on our family!"

Zander didn't say a word; his brain hadn't quite caught up yet.

He couldn't even remember why he had come to the hospital.

He just stood there, his hands still gripping the handles of the wheelchair, stiff as a board.

Yvonne looked up over the top of her mask.

She saw Miriam—the same crazy woman who had pinned her to the floor in this very lobby, ripped half her clothes off, and slapped her over a dozen times.
