His words caught in his throat.
Because he saw Eliza suddenly stop in her tracks, staring at him with eyes full of absolute, chilling disgust.
"Are you done?"
Zander froze.
Before he could even process what was happening, Eliza swung her bag directly at him. It was stuffed with her daily essentials and was incredibly heavy.
The canvas tote slammed hard against Zander's shoulder. Caught entirely off guard, he let out a sharp groan of pain.
"Eliza, are you crazy?! What the hell is your problem!"
"I'm looking out for you!"
"Julian is only hanging around you because he has an ulterior motive!"
Eliza scoffed coldly, turning on her heel to leave. She didn't want to waste another second on this man.
Just looking at him made her nauseous.
Julian smoothly extended an arm, blocking Zander's path.
"Eliza doesn't want to talk to you. Please leave, Mr. Roth."
Zander looked Julian up and down. The man was slightly taller than him, radiating an unspoken, oppressive authority.
"Fine, fine! The Lawrences are so rich and powerful, I couldn't possibly afford to offend you."
Zander rubbed his aching shoulder. "But could you stop stalking Eliza! She's still my wife!"
"What right do you have to block me?! Do you think I can't see the filthy thoughts running through your head?!"
Eliza finally hit her breaking point. She stopped, turned back around, and stepped directly in front of Julian, shielding him.
Seeing Eliza turn back, Zander's heart leaped with hope, and he immediately launched into his sob story.
"Eliza! Just let me explain! I couldn't make it clear over the phone last time, and then Gwen snatched your phone away."
"That whole thing with Yvonne getting pregnant—I was set up!"
He reached out, trying to grab her arm, but she dodged him effortlessly.
