I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 474

Nora took a deep, steadying breath, a bitter laugh escaping her lips. "The two of you... One murders my mother and brother, and the other happily covers it up, piling up more bodies to bury the truth. Do you honestly think I care about your pathetic sibling rivalry? It makes me sick. You're both rotten to the core."

The machines beside the bed suddenly began to beep frantically. Finnegan's eyelids fluttered violently, as if he were trapped in an agonizing nightmare. His lips parted, trembling, but no sound came out.

Nora stood up and took a step back, her gaze completely devoid of pity, holding nothing but a frigid, absolute hatred.

"You claimed you loved me. You stood stubbornly in the pouring rain outside my door. You even took a knife for me. Did you really think that would erase anything? Finnegan, the deepest wounds I've suffered in this life were inflicted by you and your family! Do you want a medal for saving me today? It changes nothing. A single life isn't nearly enough to repay the debt you owe me!"

Without another word, Nora turned and headed straight for the door, never looking back.

"So stay here, barely clinging to life. I want you to live just long enough to realize that you will never repay what you've done. I want you to watch Cassie grow up, knowing you will never, ever stand beside her as a father again. That's my final gift to you—to be trapped in this miserable existence, unable to live, but completely unable to die."

The door swung shut behind her. Adelaide, who had been anxiously pacing the corridor, rushed forward the moment she saw Nora. She opened her mouth to ask what had happened, but the terrifyingly cold look in Nora's eyes silenced her instantly.

Nora walked past her without uttering a single syllable.

The moment Nora returned home, her phone buzzed. It was Clara Sinclair, her best friend who had been living abroad for the past three years. Clara had known her even before her other friends, and they shared an unbreakable bond.

Three years ago, Clara had relocated for work. Over the years, they had spent countless late nights talking on the phone, constantly complaining about how much they missed each other. Now, she was finally back.

Nora missed her terribly, too, and had promised to pick her up from the airport that very evening.
