The black Mercedes-Maybach tore down the highway. Sitting in the back seat, Finnegan's mind was trapped in an endless loop of that news photo.
Nora's smile had radiated a gentle certainty he had never once witnessed in his entire life. He gripped his phone so tightly his knuckles turned white. Soon, the car screeched to a halt at the venue's entrance. The security guards immediately blocked his path. Finnegan glared at them. "Get out of my way," he demanded coldly.
Recognizing him, the guards hesitated before finally stepping aside and letting him through. Finnegan stormed past them. Outside, the final wedding preparations were in full swing. He bypassed the main building, slipping through a side entrance that led toward the bridal dressing rooms.
The corridor was dead silent, a stark contrast to the bustling festivities out front. With a dark, stormy expression, Finnegan marched to the room at the very end of the hall.
He stood by the door, his chest heaving violently. His bespoke suit was a wrinkled mess, and his tie had been unconsciously yanked loose in his frantic panic.
The door was slightly ajar. Through the crack, he could see Nora standing in front of a full-length mirror, her back to the entrance. The delicate shimmer of her wedding dress made her look absolutely ethereal.
Finnegan slowly pushed the door open and stepped inside. Hearing the noise, Nora turned around, assuming Genevieve had returned.
But the moment she saw the intruder, the radiant smile completely vanished from her face.
Finnegan stood in the doorway, his eyes bloodshot and brimming with utter bewilderment. He looked entirely shattered.
Nora's brows knitted together in sharp suspicion. "How did you get in here? Where is security? Who let you in?"
Finnegan didn't answer. He just took a slow, deliberate step toward her. Seeing her looking this breathtakingly gorgeous felt violently wrong. She was supposed to look this beautiful for him. How could she dress up like this for another man?
