Nora shook her head. "It hasn't hurt for a long time."
Tears finally spilled over as Cassie looked at her. "I'm sorry, Mom. I was so immature before. I didn't know you were sick, and I didn't know you suffered so much. I kept throwing tantrums and saying awful things to you."
Cassie wiped her eyes, but the tears just kept falling. Looking heartbroken, she carefully stepped forward and tugged at Nora's hand. "Mom, please don't be mad at me anymore."
Nora fell silent.
Once, she had truly treasured Cassie, treating her as her world. But Cassie's betrayal had been real, and the pain she caused ran deep. She couldn't just sweep it all under the rug simply because Cassie was a child.
Even at her young age, Cassie's past actions had reflected her genuine thoughts.
Nora didn't say whether she was still angry or not. She simply gave the girl's head a comforting pat.
"Alright, stop crying."
Unable to hold back any longer, Cassie threw herself into her mother's arms, sobbing too hard to speak.
Nora held her, soothing her for a long time until her crisp wails gradually subsided. Cassie looked up, her eyes red and swollen. "Mom, is today your wedding day?"
Nora nodded, gently smoothing Cassie's hair.
"Is... is he good to you?" Cassie asked, her voice choked with emotion.
Nora smiled faintly. "He treats me very well."
