Xander let out a sharp laugh. "Make up for it? Is your way of making up for it allowing Seraphina Shaw to torment her time and time again, and then using Cassie to keep her shackled, forcing Nora into a state of endless emotional turmoil?"
Finnegan's face paled, then flushed with anger at the verbal jab. "This is our family's business. It's not the place of an outsider to judge!"
Xander smiled coldly. "I couldn't care less about your family's mess. But when it comes to Nora, I am absolutely making it my business."
With that, Xander gave him a deeply profound, almost mocking look, then turned on his heel and walked away.
Rage simmered in Finnegan's eyes as he shouted after him, "Do you really think Nora would throw away years of history with the Fletcher family for an outsider like you?!"
Xander paused his steps. Without looking back, his icy voice drifted over. "Let's wait and see."
Finnegan stood frozen in place. Staring at Xander's retreating back, a sudden, inexplicable wave of panic washed over him.
Why was that man so confident?
It seemed he truly couldn't allow Nora to keep running wild out there. He needed to force her back to the Fletchers as soon as possible.
...
When Xander returned to the car, Nora looked at him. "What were you two talking about?"
She had been watching them from the vehicle the whole time, but they were too far away for her to hear anything.
Xander smiled nonchalantly and fastened his seatbelt. "Nothing much. He just said some very amusing things."
Nora's brow furrowed slightly. She knew exactly how vicious Finnegan's words could be, and she assumed he had just spewed a lot of venom.
"Whatever he said, don't take it to heart."
