Xander paused, his intense gaze locking onto her. "That's really it?"
Nora nodded. Terrified he might think she harbored some delusional romantic fantasies, she nodded even harder. "I promise you, I will treat Bonnie exceptionally well. I won't ever fake my affection for her."
Xander fell silent. He turned his head away, staring out into the distance without saying a word.
Her anxiety skyrocketed. Was he agreeing or not? If he refused, would he call off their engagement entirely?
Just as she was spiraling into worst-case scenarios, Xander's cool, commanding voice broke the silence. "I agree."
A massive wave of relief and joy crashed over Nora. She quickly looked up at him. Had he really just said yes?
The man rumored to be an absolute tyrant, the billionaire who famously refused to be used by anyone, had just accepted her terms.
"But I have one condition."
Nora stiffened. Of course. There was always a catch. A man like him wouldn't just hand out favors for free.
"Tell me. I'll agree to whatever it is."
Xander turned back to face her. He slowly lowered his head, leaning in close until she could feel the warmth of his breath. A dangerously seductive smirk played on his lips. "I will not agree to a platonic arrangement."
Nora didn't process the words immediately. What did he mean by a platonic arrangement?
"You don't understand?"
Seeing the wicked, knowing gleam in his eyes, reality finally crashed into her. So that was what he meant!
She had been married before, so naturally, she understood what a real marriage entailed. Since this was an alliance, she knew she had an obligation to fulfill her duties as a wife.
She nodded, surprisingly unbothered by the prospect. "I understand perfectly."
