For some reason, Nora pressed her lips together, and the heavy knot of tension that had plagued her all day suddenly seemed to loosen.
She had never realized Xander Harrison had such a petty, almost endearing side. Why would he be genuinely angry about this? Did he actually harbor real feelings for her? Weren't they simply entering a marriage of convenience? She assumed he merely wanted a reliable mother for Bonnie, and she happened to be the perfect candidate—someone with no ulterior motives, entirely devoted to the little girl.
Comforting herself with this logic, Nora felt her racing heart settle before returning to her seat.
Her seating arrangement, however, was incredibly awkward. Finnegan Fletcher sat to her left, and Xander was on her right. Wedged between the two men, she could practically feel an invisible, volatile undercurrent swirling in the air.
She forced herself to stare straight ahead, feigning ignorance. Yet, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Xander subtly shifting his chair to put some distance between them.
Nora gave him a baffled look.
She furrowed her brows. "Mr. Harrison, you should move a little closer. It's quite cramped over there."
Xander shot her a cool, sideways glance. "No need. Since I'm just an outsider, it wouldn't be appropriate for us to sit too closely. People might get the wrong idea."
Nora was speechless.
Alright then, he was definitely still furious about earlier.
She had only acted out of desperation to defuse the situation. Who knew the formidable billionaire harbored such a stubborn grudge?
Lowering her head, Nora offered a helpless, quiet laugh. At that moment, Finnegan's voice drifted over from her other side. "Nora, I wanted to ask Benedict a few questions. Do you know if he has a moment later?"
Nora's expression instantly frosted over. "My father and I have nothing to say to each other, so I wouldn't know. If you have questions for him, Frederick, you should ask him yourself."
Finnegan nodded and fell silent, but Seraphina Shaw let out a sharp scoff. "You're completely useless. I don't even know why you're here."
Nora turned to shoot her an icy glare, prompting Seraphina to look away, avoiding eye contact.
Finnegan nudged the woman gently. "Seraphina, don't say that."
