Seraphina took over with a cold laugh, her tone laced with disdain. "If Nora is really as amazing as you claim, why hasn't she achieved anything up to this day? Dr. Ford, maybe you shouldn't view people through such rose-tinted glasses."
Felix glared at her, his fists clenching and unclenching at his sides.
Finnegan's brows furrowed deeply.
Hearing another man stand up for Nora brought back that suffocating, inexplicable tightness in his chest. He hated seeing her standing so closely with someone else.
"Enough, both of you," he said in a low, authoritative voice. "Quiet."
His gaze then involuntarily shifted to Nora, who was seated in front of the computer.
The slight frown she wore when focused on her work gave him a strange, comforting sense of stability.
No matter what, as long as the data checked out, the directors' doubts would naturally dissipate, and Nora would have a chance to return.
It wasn't that he desperately wanted her back, nor did he want to rekindle any old flames; he simply wanted to make amends within his power.
Yet in the very next second, Nora's brow creased sharply.
She stared at the figures on the screen, her fingers hovering motionless over the keyboard as her expression turned freezing cold.
Director Winston shook his head, his tone full of disappointment. "It seems Dr. Shaw is right. This project is indeed too premature. Fred, let's wrap this up for today."
Nora sat before the computer, staring at the blatantly tampered data on the screen as her fingers slowly curled into tight fists.
She didn't bother turning around to look at the smug look on Seraphina's face, keeping her eyes glued to the numbers without moving an inch.
Seraphina smiled triumphantly. "Nora, you still call yourself Professor Vance's protege? I think it's utterly ridiculous. You're just embarrassing him! Do us all a favor and stop telling people you came from the Vance Institute!"
Just then, Nora suddenly shouted, "No! There's something wrong with this data!"
