I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 174

Nora simply stared at her with chilling silence. Sienna looked up, met her gaze, and faltered, a sudden chill creeping down her spine.

The look in Nora's eyes was dead quiet. There was zero warmth in it, as if she were looking at an absolute stranger.

Sienna's smile faltered, her brows pulling together. "Why are you looking at me like that? Do I have something on my face?"

Nora smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes.

Sienna's frown deepened, a flash of offended irritation spiking in her tone.

"What is that supposed to mean? Do you actually think I'm setting you up for failure? Oh, come on, Nora. You're a widow, he's divorced—you two are perfectly matched. What, were you holding out for some unmarried billionaire bachelor? Wake up and look at reality! What wealthy, single guy is going to willingly marry a widow dragging around a kid?"

Nora waited until she spat out the last word before speaking in a perfectly flat voice. "The 500,000 dollars you owe me. When are you paying it back?"

All the air in the living room seemed to vanish in an instant. Sienna froze on the sofa, looking as if she had been turned to stone.

A second later, she launched herself up. Her heels clacked sharply against the hardwood floor, her voice cracking as it skyrocketed in pitch. "Nora, what did you just say? You're hounding me for money? Are you out of your mind?"

Nora tilted her head back to look at the hysterical woman, her tone completely level. "I simply asked you to repay a debt. How does that make me the crazy one? Unless my memory fails me, that was my money."

Sienna's lips parted, trembling, but no words came out.

She stood in front of the coffee table, chest heaving violently, a rapid succession of emotions crossing her face as though she were the victim of a heinous betrayal.

Nora sat on the sofa, staring blankly ahead, before letting out a soft, self-deprecating laugh.

She didn't let it bother her too much. Sienna was no longer the innocent, loyal friend she once knew anyway.

Closing her eyes, Nora let out a long, heavy exhale. Then she unlocked her phone, deleted the message, and hit the reject button, permanently declining the man's friend request.

On the other side of town, the second Sienna stepped out of Nora's building, she frantically dialed Seraphina's number, her voice shrill with rage.

"Let me tell you, Seraphina, Nora has lost her damn mind!"
