He stood in the living room, scanning the area.

As he passed the entrance, he paused, glancing at the closed door directly across the hall.

"Noah, do you know who lives across from you?" Caspar asked, feigning casual curiosity.

"No idea." Noah shook his head.

"You're home all day. You haven't seen anyone?"

Noah remembered Finn's warnings, the brand-new smartphone he had been bribed with, and the promise he had made.

He clamped his mouth shut.

"Never seen them."

Caspar shot him a look but didn't press the issue.

The interior of the car was perfectly quiet.

After hanging up the phone, Silas glanced at Sienna.

She was still staring out the window, watching the towering buildings blur past.

Silas realized he had pushed too hard.

Confronting his own feelings, he admitted that he was genuinely afraid of losing her.

It had been years since he had felt this kind of possessive anxiety.

Silas leaned back against the leather seat and closed his eyes.

"Sienna."

"Mhm."

"I'll try my best not to do anything that makes you uncomfortable from now on." He paused. "Whenever you feel ready to move, just tell me."

Sienna blinked in surprise, slowly turning her head to stare at his face. For a fleeting moment, she was genuinely stunned.

She found it hard to believe.

Those words had actually come out of Silas's mouth.

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

Silas gazed into her large, striking eyes. She was stunning.
