I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 579

"What happened?" she asked unhurriedly, feeding Ian a small spoonful of puree. The little guy waved his chubby hands in delight, giving her a gummy smile that melted her heart.

"A massive refund run. It turns out the project has been glitching for a while, but Sienna kept a tight lid on it. Last night, one of the robots went rogue on the streets and tried to mug an elderly person, giving them a literal heart attack. The victim is in the hospital, and their family stormed the owner's estate demanding compensation. Rumor has it the owner is a major business tycoon in the city. The guy was completely humiliated and immediately hired lawyers to sue Sienna. The press caught the whole thing on camera. You can check your phoneโ€”it's still trending on the front pages. Since this morning, clients have been swarming the office demanding their deposits back. Sienna is currently barricaded in her office, too terrified to even open the door."

Zoe listened to the update with total indifference. It was neither good nor bad news to her. Easton's downfall was inevitable; what truly pained her was the fate of the robots she had painstakingly designed. The only person who had ever genuinely benefited from her technology was Professor Harrison.

The rest of the robots had their core chips infected with a virus. Even if she patched the software and pushed them back to market, Easton's catastrophic scandal under Sienna's leadership had irreparably destroyed their reputation.

Zoe would just have to scrap them, or perhaps strip away their sleek exteriors, rewrite the code, and repurpose them for the military base. She didn't feel too much pity. She was, however, slightly surprised that Wyatt had genuinely taken her side, considering Valerie Yates was his own cousin.

"Thank you. Keep an eye on things for me," Zoe said politely.

Wyatt paused, then spoke cautiously, "Zoe, you still don't treat me like one of your own, do you? I swear my feelings for you are genuineโ€”wait, no, I mean my loyalty."

Wyatt's frantic backpedaling amused her. "I know. If you want to come back, the door to my studio is open. It's not safe to linger there much longer, and it wouldn't be great if you were suddenly accused of corporate espionage."

Thrilled to finally have her validation, Wyatt replied eagerly, "Don't worry. I'll come back the second Easton collapses. I want a front-row seat to watch those shameless frauds burn to the ground."
