She was so incredibly hurt.

"It's okay, sweetie. I've got you. You must have been terrified," he soothed.

Looking at Zoe, still shivering and soaked from the river, his heart ached for her.

"We need to get you to the hospital immediately. I'm driving."

Zoe's initial instinct was to refuse, but she was worried about the baby.

"Aren't you supposed to be racing?"

Garrett was frantic. "I overheard someone say a woman with a child fell into the river down by where you were standing. I skipped the second heat and ran straight here. What happened?"

Before Zoe could answer, Lily wiped her tears and sniffled out the truth.

"It was Holden. He tried to push me into the water, and Mommy fell in instead."

Garrett's expression instantly darkened with fury.

"Sienna's kid?"

Zoe sighed heavily. "Yes."

"Where the hell is Hayden? He's here, isn't he?"

He knew damn well that if Sienna was around, Hayden couldn't be far.

The two of them were practically joined at the hip.

Easton wasn't even participating in the Regatta, so why the hell did they show up?

"Forget about him."

Zoe had zero desire to waste another word on that man.

Garrett sped her to the hospital as fast as humanly possible.

Dr. Lambert was the one to examine her. It was the doctor's first time seeing Zoe accompanied by a man, and she leveled a lethal glare at Garrett.

"Are you Ms. Lynd's boyfriend?"

Dr. Lambert glanced at Lily, who was a miniature replica of Zoe.

She assumed the child belonged to him and Zoe.

"You already have a child, yet you treat her life with such reckless disregard?"

"You're pregnant? Why didn't you say anything? You've been working yourself to the bone every single day. Do you really have a death wish?"

Zoe had felt perfectly energetic, completely unaware of any discomfort.

"I'm fine. Don't worry about me."

"Absolutely not. Starting tomorrow, you are strictly on half-days. Once you finish your immediate tasks, you leave the office. You don't need to report to anyone."

Lily watched them curiously, tilting her head. "What does pregnant mean?"

She didn't understand the grown-up talk.

Garrett gently tapped her nose. "It means you're going to have a little brother or sister very soon."

Zoe rested a hand on her stomach, a trace of melancholy in her eyes.

"Honestly, I wasn't planning on keeping it, but—"

Before she could finish, Garrett cut her off fiercely.

"Absolutely out of the question. It's a new life. You're having this baby for yourself. The doctor said you've had five miscarriages. I didn't know you back then, and I couldn't protect you, but you are an honorary member of the Kendall family now. This child will be under our protection. I forbid you from destroying your body like that ever again."
