I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 239

Zoe ignored Hayden and headed straight upstairs.

Once in her room, she locked the door and double-checked the deadbolt.

Only then did she finally let out a long breath.

Cherry texted her later that night.

[No movement from Sienna.]

Zoe's lips curled. No movement meant Sienna was banking on Hayden to save her.

He had just been downstairs threatening her, after all.

Sienna was a mother, too.

Having her child humiliated and dragged through the mud for the world to judge was something no mother could stomach.

[Okay.]

Playing dead wouldn't work.

Even if Hayden had the world in the palm of his hand, this was an international live broadcast. Facing the global media, he couldn't save her.

After all the anger and humiliation Zoe had endured, she was going to make Sienna apologize to Lily in front of the entire world.

The next morning, as soon as Zoe arrived at the office, Garrett Stone came to find her.

"Professor Layne invited us to lunch."

He noticed she looked as radiant as ever. He had been worried Hayden's drama with Sienna would ruin her mood, but clearly, he had worried for nothing.

Zoe looked confused. "Why is he inviting us?"

She assumed professors of his caliber were too busy for casual socializing.

The old man had been trying to get close to her, and she found it exhausting. She really didn't want to go.

"Don't forget, you formally acknowledged him as your mentor last time. Technically, we should be the ones treating him since we just got back."

Out of respect for Garrett, Zoe agreed.

As Garrett left her office, he looked at her focused expression and shook his head, a smile tugging at his lips.

People would pay millions just to get five minutes with someone of Professor Layne's status, yet here he was, practically begging to take Zoe out to lunch.

That was exactly what Layne wanted to hear.

Talent like hers was one in a million.

Back in the day, before she officially became his student, Zoe had helped him solve countless impossible problems.

Layne often thought that if it weren't for her blind devotion to romance, she would be unparalleled in the industry.

In the era of AI, brilliant minds were everywhere, but she was special.

When she ignored him after getting married, it broke his heart.

Now that she was finally back, he wanted nothing more than to officially adopt her as his goddaughter.

Layne shot Garrett a pointed look.

Garrett poured water for Zoe, looking a bit flustered.

Noticing Layne's aggressive winking, Zoe looked between the two men.

"Mr. Stone, is there something you want to say?"
