I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 218

...

Was Nadia using her as bait?

Zoe and Nadia Fox were hunkered down in the car.

Sure enough, right around nine o'clock, Sienna Winters strolled toward the luxury mall, dressed to the nines.

This kind of high-end shopping center didn't see much foot traffic, but everyone who entered was either filthy rich or highly influential.

Nadia hopped out of the car and shot Zoe a wink.

"Just wait for the show. We've parked in the absolute perfect spot."

Zoe had no idea what she was planning until Nadia dashed over to a spot not too far from Sienna and screamed at the top of her lungs, "That's her! That's Zoe Lynd!"

As soon as the words left Nadia's mouth, a mob of people materialized as if they had been lying in wait, hurling whatever they had in their hands wildly in Nadia's direction.

Nadia faked a look of absolute terror. Just as a raw egg was about to hit her, an arm suddenly shot out, deflecting the egg so hard it flew into the distance and shattered on the ground, a mess of yellow yolk oozing across the pavement.

Zoe had a clear view of everything from the driver's seat.

The man playing the hero at the critical moment was none other than her husband, Hayden Thorne.

He shielded Sienna from the first wave of the attack. Before a second wave could even begin, security guards were already rushing over to grab the instigators.

Sienna looked pale and terrified, burying herself against Hayden's shoulder, trembling like a leaf.

Nadia hadn't expected Hayden to be there. Muttering a sharp curse, she turned tail and sprinted back to the car.

Zoe didn't put on the sunglasses and hat Nadia had given her.

Even though the car was parked quite a distance away, when Hayden's gaze swept in her direction, she had the inexplicable feeling that he had already spotted her.

Sienna's face was completely drained of color as Hayden swept her into his arms and quickly carried her into the elevator.

Nadia saw it too, practically bursting with anger as she cursed.

"Damn it! I calculated every single variable, but I didn't account for him actually being here."

She knew Hayden still harbored lingering feelings for Sienna, but she never imagined they were so inseparable that he wouldn't leave her side for a single moment.

She had miscalculated.

A mocking smirk curled at the corner of Zoe's lips.

The scheme she and Nadia had spent half a month painstakingly planning had been completely dismantled by Hayden within three minutes of his appearance.

In stark contrast, when Sienna had her rabid fans brutalize Zoe not too long ago, Hayden hadn't even bothered to ask if she was okay.

However, it seemed the married couple had officially entered a cold war.

Zoe didn't care either way.

The night passed in silence.

Yet, in the dead of night, an explosive headline quietly crawled its way to the top of the trending charts.

Zoe took the opportunity to drop Lily off at school on her way to work at Sterling Group, finding the new routine incredibly convenient.

Garrett Stone came into her office to ask how Lily felt about her first day.

Zoe smiled.

"Thank you, Mr. Stone. Lily really likes the new school. She said the teachers and her classmates are all very nice to her."

Garrett nodded. "As long as Lily likes it, that's what matters. Let me show you something else. I think you'll be quite pleased."

He handed his phone across the desk.

It was a headline that had been sitting at the top of the charts for several hours: A bullying incident at a prestigious kindergarten in the capital. The instigating boy reportedly had deep-rooted connections, while the bullied girl was unfairly expelled, sparking intense public outrage.

Hundreds of millions of comments flooded in like a broken dam. The public discourse was spiraling out of control, and the article had already been shared tens of millions of times.
