By the time Zoe received Beatrice's call, Garrett was already giving her a tour of a prestigious preschool near Sterling Group.
He had shown her three exceptional academies.
She eventually settled on one whose dismissal schedule perfectly aligned with her own work hours. With Garrett leveraging his influence, the enrollment process was completely frictionless.
The headmaster personally welcomed them, promising Lily could start the very next day.
Zoe was immensely grateful, and Garrett looked at her with a quiet, burning admiration in his eyes.
He knew she was a married woman, and though Hayden's behavior was completely baffling, Garrett could sense that her feelings for her husband ran agonizingly deep.
Any other woman would have divorced the bastard a hundred times over by now.
Beatrice's voice over the phone was filled with maternal warmth. She was the only person in the entire Thorne family who actually cared about the injustice Zoe and Lily had suffered.
"You sweet, honest girl. I've pulled a list of the top ten academies in the city. Every single one boasts top-tier faculty and incredible facilities. Just tell me which one Lily prefers, and I'll make the call."
Zoe was deeply moved.
The matriarch had always been so incredibly kind to them.
But she already had everything sorted.
Garrett had found the perfect place, and she loved the convenience.
"Thank you, Grandmother, but there's no need. I've already enrolled her. A friend helped me find a wonderful school right next to my office. It'll be so easy to drop her off."
Beatrice was surprised by how quickly she had moved.
She couldn't help but ask.
"You have a friend helping you? Is it that lovely lawyer, Nadia?"
Beatrice knew Zoe's life inside and out.
She knew how blindly devoted the girl had been to Hayden.
While her idiot grandson treated Sienna like a goddess.
Beatrice was a terrifying force of nature in the business world, and the rest of her descendants were just as brilliant.
"That old geezer's grandson has his sights set on Zoe! This is a disaster! No one is poaching my granddaughter-in-law!"
Mary gasped in shock.
"Wait, you mean the man who tried and failed to court you back in the day? Now his grandson is trying to steal the young madam?"
Beatrice let out a vicious scoff. "That ancient, shameless fossil! Putting his grandson up to such underhanded thievery! I'm going to pay him a visit and give him a piece of my mind!"
Hayden might have a thousand flaws, but Beatrice adored Zoe.
There was absolutely no way she was letting some rival family swoop in and steal her away.
With Lily's schooling handled, Zoe returned to the Sterling Group offices in high spirits.
Meanwhile, across the city, Hayden sat in his luxurious office, staring down at his phone. Zoe's number was displayed on the screen. He hadn't saved her name in his contacts, but he knew the digits by heart.
For five years, she had called him relentlessly from this number, and he had never answered a single time.
He wanted to call her now. His thumb hovered over the screen, pressing down lightly several times, before he finally pulled his hand away in defeat.
