"No need. I don't need anyone to keep me company."
Hayden stood up and, like a magic trick, produced a large toy and held it out to Lily.
"A gift for you."
Lily looked timidly at the Barbie doll Hayden placed in her hands.
Suddenly, her eyes widened.
It was the limited edition Ice Princess she had seen on TV!
So many kids at kindergarten said they wanted to buy it.
But it was very, very expensive and impossible to get.
Lily glanced at Zoe.
As if asking if she could accept it.
Hayden's brows furrowed imperceptibly.
He was giving his daughter a gift, why did his daughter have to ask for Zoe's permission?
Was he not worthy?
Zoe patted Lily's little head, accepted the doll on her behalf, and then handed it to her daughter.
"Go play upstairs."
Lily was thrilled, saying 'Thank you, Mommy!' as she hugged the doll and ran off.
The slight, smiling curve that had just formed on Hayden's lips froze.
He gave it to her.
Thank you, Mommy?
Heh.
Whatever, there was no point in arguing with a child.
Hayden went to the dining room.
Zoe closely followed Lily upstairs.
She listened carefully to the sounds downstairs.
Hayden shouldn't finish eating that quickly, so she tip-toed and sneaked into the master bedroom.
Zoe's first target was the drawer of the nightstand.
There were hardly any places to hide things in Hayden's bedroom.
She searched everywhere for the comic book, even looking under the bed.
After turning the place upside down and sweating profusely, there was still no sign of the comic book.
Zoe was pacing around anxiously.
Just as she was wondering where Hayden could have possibly put the book...
The man was already leaning against the doorframe, watching the good show.
He hadn't made a sound, his dark, profound eyes fixed on Zoe.
Watching her scurry around making rustling noises like a giant mouse.
"Looking for your comic?"
"Give it back!"
Zoe reached out to grab it.
Hayden sidestepped, easily dodging her movement.
But Zoe used too much force and almost fell forward.
Hayden violently grabbed her collar and pulled her back.
In the push and pull, Zoe found herself pulled into his embrace.
Hayden's grip was so strong that Zoe couldn't break free at all.
He looked down from above at the woman in his arms.
A wicked smirk curved his lips.
"Drawing me like that... what exactly are you trying to do?"
Zoe felt like the sky was falling.
He really had read it, and he knew it was a drawing of him.
"W-who drew you? I didn't draw that."
As long as she denied it to her death, it had nothing to do with her.
Hayden stared down at her so intensely that Zoe wished she could dig a hole and hide in it.
But the man was too cruel to let her look away.
"Mrs. Thorne, if you have the time to sit alone fantasizing, why not use live ammunition, hmm?"
