He wanted Zoe to know that he was highly sought after, and that plenty of women were desperately throwing themselves at him.
He wasn't some unwanted stray that Zoe could just toss aside on a whim.
Zoe had reached her limit. The only reason she hadn't slapped Zoey herself was because she was engaged to Hunter.
If Nadia hadn't stepped in, she would have.
"Who exactly are you calling a whore?"
At the entrance, the waiter bowed respectfully to welcome a VIP.
The man strode purposefully straight toward Zoe's table.
His left arm rested in a sling, but his right arm moved with absolute dominance, pulling Zoe firmly into his embrace.
His warning glare chilled Zoey to the bone.
Zoe tried to struggle, but Hunter and Zoey were watching.
Not wanting to fuel Zoey's misunderstandings, she allowed Hayden to hold her.
Where no one could see, the heel of her stiletto dug fiercely into the top of Hayden's foot.
The man felt it, but he didn't so much as flinch.
Instead, his grip tightened, sending a sharp twinge of pain through her waist.
She frowned, not daring to make a sound, and could only glare at him.
Sensing she was trapped by the situation, he took full advantage.
Hayden brazenly kissed Zoe's cheek right in front of everyone.
Then, as if they were the only two people in the room, he pulled her directly onto his lap.
"I organized this get-together. Sorry, I got held up at the office," he announced smoothly.
He paused for a moment, his gaze shifting to Zoe, filled with deep, unmistakable affection.
"You're on your period and haven't been feeling well. Make sure you don't eat anything cold," he murmured.
He reached out, gently tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
Their intimate display left absolutely no room for anyone to doubt the perfection of their marriage.
Hayden's movements were boldly possessive, his hand resting on Zoe's long thigh, stroking it rhythmically.
Even someone as worldly as Nadia felt her face heat up.
Faced with such a blatant declaration of ownership, Hunter wasn't an idiot.
Looking at Hayden, Hunter suddenly had a thought. Maybe Zoe wasn't just being mature.
Maybe Zoe had just never truly loved him.
Otherwise, why would she use every trick in the book to get his cousin?
He wouldn't have minded if Zoe had schemed to get him, or if she had fought ruthlessly to snatch him away from Zoey.
He certainly wouldn't have been as cold and heartless to her as Hayden was.
Butβ
Hayden's behavior right now was baffling.
Even Hunter wasn't sure what was real anymore.
"I'm sorry, Hayden. Sorry, Zoe. We've interrupted your evening. Zoey didn't know what she was saying, and I apologize on her behalf."
Hayden suddenly grabbed the heavy crystal ashtray and smashed it against the table. Everyone in the restaurant jumped.
His voice was slow and dangerously even. "Never let me hear the name 'Zoey' from your mouth again. Either she changes her name, orβ"
Hayden's dark, ruthless eyes made it hard for Hunter to breathe.
"You change your woman."
