Helena wore a dark red velvet dress with a flawless pearl necklace, looking warm, elegant, and absolutely radiant.
Seeing them walk in, she immediately waved them over to sit.
"Come here, you must be starving after that long flight."
A white porcelain soup tureen sat on the coffee table. Helena lifted the lid, releasing a rich, savory aroma, laced with the faint, earthy scent of herbs.
"Virginia, I got this recipe from an experienced herbalist. It's black-bone chicken simmered for six hours with rare restorative herbs. It's perfect for a woman's vitality."
Helena served her a bowl with a beaming smile. "Drink it while it's hot."
Virginia stared at the thick, milky broth, her smile stiffening slightly. "Helena, I've been feeling fine lately. I don't need supplements."
"Nonsense." Helena took her hand, speaking earnestly. "Women need to take care of their health. Besides..."
She paused, her gaze dropping to Virginia's flat stomach, her eyes gleaming with poorly concealed anticipation.
"Mrs. Layton came over yesterday just to show off her twin grandsons. You should have seen them—so healthy and chubby. I was positively green with envy."
She threw a pointed look at Archer. "You two aren't getting any younger. It's time to start thinking about having a baby."
Virginia's grip on the spoon tightened, her eyes dropping defensively.
"Helena, I'm swamped with work right now, and I have Cindy to take care of. I have no plans for a baby."
Helena froze, a flash of disappointment crossing her eyes.
But she knew Virginia's personality well enough not to push her.
