HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 936

"Let them clear the way," Cale replied briefly.

He made no attempt to pursue them in haste. It was precisely that calmness that began to make Silas uneasy. He continued backing away, yet his eyes never left Cale, who was now advancing toward him at an unhurried pace.

Silas let out a quiet chuckle despite his increasingly labored breathing. "I have to admit, your composure is truly remarkable, Cale," he said with a laugh. "Meanwhile, Lydia could be taking her last breath."

Cale gave no response whatsoever.

"You know what's the funniest part?" Silas limped backward. "Everyone thinks you're a savior." A sly grin spread across his face. "But every time someone needs you, you always show up after it's already too late."

Cale kept walking forward. His expression remained flat, completely unaffected.

Seeing that cold reaction, Silas's smile began to fade. He clenched his jaw, trying to provoke his opponent.

"Lydia."

Still no response.

"Naomi."

Silence.

Silas frowned. He had deliberately spoken both names to provoke Cale's anger as he had before. Yet the man standing before him had become even harder to read. For the first time, Silas felt his words had lost their power.

Behind Cale, Vincent observed the change carefully. He had known his superior for far too long. The quieter Cale became, the more dangerous the situation was for the man standing in front of him.

Silas stopped retreating when his back was nearly against the door leading to the rear staircase. He glanced briefly toward the exit before looking back at Cale. There was still a chance, as long as he could create a little space.

Without warning, Silas raised the pistol he had been holding. The muzzle immediately leveled at Cale's chest.

But before his finger could pull the trigger...

Pfft!

A suppressed shot from the upper window tore through the shoulder of the man standing beside Silas. He collapsed instantly. Silas's attention was diverted, making him instinctively turn his head.

That split second of distraction was more than enough for Cale.

In one long stride, Cale was already standing in front of him. Silas's eyes widened as he finally realized just how terrifyingly fast the man was. Acting on instinct, he tried to bring the pistol up again. But a powerful kick struck his wrist first.

Seeing that subtle change, Silas laughed again. "There. At last, you've shown a reaction. What a pity... you'll never hear the answer."

Cale raised his hand, ready to end it all.

But at that very moment, the phone in Vincent's jacket pocket vibrated. Vincent immediately checked the screen, and his expression instantly turned tense.

"Sir," he said, handing the phone to Cale. "It's Jasper."

A faint smile spread across Silas's face. "Go ahead and answer it." He spat contemptuously at Cale. "Maybe he wants to offer his condolences."

Cale accepted the call without taking his eyes off Silas. He didn't say a single word. Several seconds passed in silence. Then a voice came from the other end.

"Cale, your wife is safe."

Cale's hands clenched into tight fists, but he still said nothing.

"Jasper can't take this call. I've done my part." The man on the other end paused for a moment. "The rest is no longer my concern."
