His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 183

Conrad smirked. "Fine. I guess I'm getting the cold shoulder. But what about you taking a punch for my mother? What's that about?"

Annika found him incredibly tiresome. "She's always been very good to me. I just said it without thinking. It doesn't mean anything else, so don't overthink it."

The smile on Conrad's lips deepened, but a fiery glint appeared in his eyes as he looked at her. "Annika, if you don't want people to overthink things, then don't do things that invite speculation."

His tone had shifted, laced with irritation. "My mother wants us to get remarried now. What do you say we do about that?"

A headache started to form at Annika's temples. Remembering the past, a cold smile touched her lips. "Conrad, from what I recall, you've never been a particularly dutiful son."

If he were, he wouldn't have continued his affair with Serena back then, despite Yazmin's objections.

Conrad seemed to sense what she was thinking and chuckled softly. "Even though I didn't like you back then, I still listened to my mother and married you, didn't I? Besides, the past is the past. People change. What if I want to be a dutiful son now?"

Annika felt like talking to him was pointless.

"Fine. If you want to be a dutiful son, no one is stopping you. But it's late. We need to rest. You should go."

Conrad wanted to say, "My wife and son are here, where else would I go?" But his pride got the better of him, and he changed his words at the last second. "My son is here. Where else would I go?"

Seeing him act so shamelessly, Annika's temper flared. "This isn't like you, Conrad. You're not one to be so unreasonable."

Annika stood before him with her arms crossed, fuming.

Lana, who had likely overheard their conversation, passed through the living room with a basket of clean clothes. She kept her head down and walked quietly, pretending she hadn't heard a thing.

Lost in thought as she walked upstairs, Annika nearly tripped, only saving herself by grabbing the handrail. Whenever she thought about Conrad, her mind became a mess.

The next afternoon, Annika was in her office reviewing documents when Wayne burst in, flustered. "Ms. Sargent, Molly from the PR department just called. She said she's in danger and needs us to rescue her."

Molly was attractive and well-qualified, so when she applied to Sargent Group, Annika had personally appointed her as the PR manager.

Annika asked, "Did she say what happened?"

Wayne replied, "There's this difficult client whose contract we've been trying to secure for a while. He called Molly to a meeting today."

If something happened to Molly on company business, Sargent Group would be liable. Annika closed the file, and she and Wayne quickly left the office.
