Julian POV

She knows I was trying to protect her. She admitted she saw my intentions. She isn’t blind to them.

“Okay. I will get them to the pack hospital for medical attention. Then I will return them to their home. I’ve had people maintaining it while they were there so that suspicions wouldn’t rise.”

“I’d like to go back to that house before they return. I need to search for something there.”

“Whatever you like, Sinclair.”

She looks at me cautiously but then nods. “First, let’s get these two to the pack hospital. Were they even being fed?”

“Yes. Bread, once a day and a glass of water.”

She looks at me like a monster. Shit. I probably should have fed them a little more than bread. If I had known that she would have reacted this way, I would have.

She tells the guard to open the gate. I nod when he looks at me. “Help me carry these two out of here. We are taking them to the pack hospital.”

Conrad’s eyes open a little. “Sinner?” he asked weakly.

“Yeah. Don’t look at this like an act of mercy. I just don’t want your death on my hands. We are getting you and Chad medical attention, Conrad.”

Conrad closed his eyes. “Thank you, Sinner.”

“Why do they call you Sinner?” I asked her as we were carrying Chad and Conrad out.

“They mocked me while I lived with them. They thought calling me Sinner would upset me. At first, it did, but then I grew numb to it,” she said casually.

They didn’t treat her well, yet she is showing them more compassion than they ever showed her. Candy even wants her dead. I decide to probe her about Candy.

“Did Candy and you have a falling out?”

“Nope. She was always a bitch. Spoiled princess complex. If I got anything, even bare necessities, she would get angry with me. I was starved a lot as a teenager because of her. I know the pain these two are feeling.”
