His Plump Mate (Book 1: The 'His' Series) novel Chapter 617

Julian POV

“Alpha, we acquired the information from Ironclaw,” my beta said.

“Excellent work, beta.”

“There is a problem though, Alpha.”

I sighed. Of course there is a problem. “According to our techs, there is a problem with the design. It looks like it is correct, but according to the notes, there is still a misfire happening, and the solution hasn’t been discovered yet.”

“So they don’t have the tool either, then,” I surmised.

“It would appear not. The majority of the tool design is solid. It also hinges on some kind of stone. A stone not in our possession. I don’t know where we can find it.”

I smirked. “It’s scarce. I came across a small sample and paid handsomely for it.”

“Then if we can figure out the design flaw, then we can test it. How small is small, Alpha?”

“About a half-carat,” I said. “It may be our only shot.”

“Is there any way to get more samples?” Dave asked.

“I know that Sinclair’s mother left her a keepsake. If we can get it, then we would have two samples,” I replied.

“I’ll see what I can do, alpha.”

“Are there any updates on getting her alone? What about taking Rodrigo and Mia?” I asked.

“Mia is heavily guarded. She and her pup have around-the-clock surveillance. The pack has been fortified with additional security measures. I believe that was Sinclair’s handiwork as well,” Dave said but continued, “Rodrigo will cave if we can snatch his mate first.”

“He’s mated?”

“Yes. His mate is an omega.”

“Grab her. She is our leverage.”

“Understood.”

“And I want Sinclair. She is mine. I want that woman. She could be essential to my plan now.”

At that moment, Ronan finally decides to grace me with his fucking presence. I growled and grabbed him by the neck. I slammed him against the wall.

“Where the fuck have you been, Ronan?” I snarled.

His face was completely unfazed by my anger. “Relax. I needed to recover from the gunshot wound. Then I was buried in a young twenty-something woman,” he smirked.

The bastard fucking smirked. It makes me want to rip his throat out. I take a deep breath.

“I’ve told you that I need Sinclair. Why are you insisting on trying to kill her? Let me get what I need from her first, and then you can do what you want to her.”

“Her foster sister is the one I’m training. She wants to kill her. I’m training her to understand how to take down a wolf.”

Adrian came in and overheard Sinclair and me talking. “What if this is a new threat? Ironclaw had new warriors recruited, right?”

“Shit. Yeah, we did. They were all vetted through the council, though,” I added.

Isaiah came in with Aric. “We have guards at the breach point. Kaia, why don’t you and I go to the office and review the files of the new recruits and see if we missed anything?”

Sinclair adds, “Check the files of any new pack members too, just in case.”

Adrian looks at Sinclair with a smirk. “You think a pack member could pull this off, undetected?”

“One that is trained with a clean background…absolutely. I started off that way, Adrian. So did Kaia.”

“She’s right, guys,” I said, agreeing with Sinclair. “We will look at those, too.”

Sinclair looked at Adrian. “Let’s go fix a fence.”

Adrian smiled at Sinclair. “Okay. I will happily be your apprentice, little sin.”

I laughed. “You shouldn’t have said that, Adrian.”

He looked at me strangely. But Isaiah laughed, too. “Sinclair is going to put your ass to work now, bro. You just offered yourself up on a platter to her.”

“Hush, you two. Don’t give away my position,” Sinclair laughed.

Adrian is now looking at her curiously, but said nothing. She just smirked at him and told him to carry the tool kit. I just laughed. I wonder if Adrian is ready for what he just walked into.
