He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 69

The expensive nightstand and luxury bedding he had sent over previously were completely gone.

The only piece of furniture left was a cheap plastic stool.

She placed her grocery bag on the stool, leaving nowhere else to sit.

"You can sit on the bed."

He had incredibly long legs. If he sat on the bed, she wouldn't even be able to walk past him.

Rummaging through her bag, she pulled out two adhesive wall hooks. She squeezed past his knees, pressing herself against the wall, and stuck the hooks onto the back of the door. After wiping the door down with a towel, she turned to him.

"You can hang your clothes here."

His suits were ridiculously expensive. If they weren't hung up, they would wrinkle.

He stood up, stepped behind her, and hung his jacket on the hook.

"Have you eaten?" she asked.

"No." He sat back down on the tiny cot, watching as she pulled a cheap instant noodle pot from the bag. "I'll make some noodles."

She carried the pot downstairs to get water.

The only water source was a communal tap down in the scooter parking area.

Standing on the balcony, he looked down at her.

As she bent over the tap, her shirt rode up, exposing a sliver of her pale waist and highlighting the curve of her hips.

Every man walking past stopped to stare at her.

He headed downstairs and took the pot from her hands. "I'll do it."

The men lingering nearby awkwardly rubbed their noses and scattered.

She smiled faintly. "It's dirty down here. You shouldn't touch these things."

"If you can touch it, why can't I?"

Carrying the pot in one hand, he grabbed her wrist with the other and led her back upstairs.

Back in the room, she cooked the noodles.

The pot was so small it could only fit one packet at a time.

She handed it to him. "You eat first."

He took a bite. "It's a little salty."

She took the bowl and tried a large mouthful.

It definitely was.

She hadn't used enough water, and boiling it too long made the broth evaporate, concentrating the salt.
