He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 35

Yorath followed her into the kitchen to grab the silverware and serve the food.

Sitting at the dining table, Jevon took a massive gulp of water. "The last time I tasted Ms. Sewell's cooking was three years ago. I'm only getting this lucky tonight because of Yorath."

Ottilie smiled faintly. "I only know how to make rustic home-cooked meals. Mr. Crawford is used to fine dining; I'm afraid this might not suit your palate."

In the past, Jevon used to relentlessly mock Ottilie behind her back.

He would complain that her entire existence revolved around the kitchen, constantly fussing over whether Yorath was well-fed and warmly dressed.

He'd say she was completely unpresentable.

What Yorath needed was a fiercely capable wife with an equal family background, not a glorified nanny hovering over his every need.

He claimed she was delusional for thinking she could ever marry into the Fordham family without understanding that basic reality.

Knowing exactly what she was implying, Jevon laughed out loud, completely unbothered.

"You're a lot more interesting now than you used to be, Ms. Sewell."

Yorath placed the soup on the table and shot him a look. "Keep your mouth shut."

Jevon immediately fell silent.

Ottilie's cooking had never been spectacular. Even when following a recipe to the letter, she somehow managed to make things taste incredibly average.

Back then, she had worked tirelessly at it, determined to be the perfect wife and capture Yorath's heart through his stomach.

Now, she barely put any effort in, and the food reflected it.

Taking a bite herself, she found it completely bland.

"I didn't add enough salt," she noted.

"Less salt is healthier," Yorath replied smoothly.

Jevon got up and went to the kitchen himself, mixing hot sauce and vinegar to create his own dipping sauce.

Feigning nonchalance, he asked, "What were you doing at the hospital today, Ms. Sewell?"

"Checking to see if my test results were ready," she replied.

"They aren't," Jevon said. "Elian is handling them personally. He'll let you know the moment they're out."

Because she had to be up at four in the morning for her shift at the diner, Ottilie went to bed at nine.

Barely a moment after she lay down, Yorath walked into the room.

As the lights flicked on, she immediately yanked the covers over her head.

Hearing his footsteps approach the bed, her muffled voice called out from beneath the blanket. "Mr. Fordham, my results still aren't back yet."
