Six o'clock in the evening.
Yorath sat in his office, listening to the woman across from him cry hysterically.
"We built this business from nothing. We've been married twenty years, and he set me up during the divorce to take on ten million in debt. He even stole my entire private art collection! Mr. Fordham, you have to help me."
The woman sobbed uncontrollably between sentences.
Through the relentless weeping, Yorath's gaze kept drifting toward the cell phone resting on his desk.
Once Soren escorted the client out, Jevon Crawford walked in. He had been waiting outside for a while.
"Yorath, ever since the police held their press conference this afternoon regarding Yves Walden's case, Ms. Sewell has been trending again. She's been at the top of the search charts for two hours."
Yorath picked up his phone, opened his messages, and scrolled to the very bottom to check for any unread texts.
He checked his missed calls.
Finding nothing, he closed the app and opened his browser.
Sitting at the very top of the trending list was the accusation that Ottilie had hired thugs to assault a student.
Regardless of the actual truth, or the fact that the police had already publicized the details of how the father-daughter duo had framed and extorted Yves, the internet mob only believed their own wild conspiracy theories.
The consensus was that Ottilie had massive, shady connections, and that she had hired Yorath to clear Yves's name while evading justice herself.
Yorath was still operating under a pseudonym for the case.
But Ottilie's name was being dragged through the mud, her reputation absolutely ruined.
Jevon slouched into the chair across from Yorath, spinning comfortably in place.
"If this keeps blowing up, it's going to be impossible for Ms. Sewell to make a comeback in the industry."
Yorath remained silent.
Jevon kept talking. "By the way, is Nyssa's movie really getting shelved? Our firm invested heavily in it. We're looking at a hundred million down the drain."
The phone on the desk suddenly vibrated.
Jevon glanced over and saw Ottilie's name flash on the screen.
Yorath snatched the phone, stood up, and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window to answer it.
Jevon muttered under his breath, "What a succubus."
If Ottilie had been born into a wealthy, matched family, who knew how completely she would have destroyed Yorath by now!!!
Ottilie was calling him from the windy hospital rooftop.
"Yorath, I don't want to live anymore."
