Yves stared at the officers in shock. "I didn't do anything. I went out there yesterday to help a student's family with their harvest."
"We won't falsely accuse an innocent man. Please come to the station for questioning," the officer stated.
Yves nodded in agreement. Before leaving, he tried to comfort Ottilie. "Don't be afraid. I'm being framed. The police will prove my innocence."
Ottilie stood tall and addressed the officers. "I was with him the entire time yesterday working in the fields. I'm a witness. I demand to come with you to the station to testify on his behalf. He is completely innocent."
The police agreed.
As soon as they arrived at the station, Daisy's father lunged forward and threw a punch at Yves.
"You absolute monster! My daughter is just a kid, and you dared to assault her! I'll kill you!"
The police quickly pulled the man back.
"Sir, I never touched your daughter," Yves pleaded. "Where is she? Have her come out and tell the truth herself."
Daisy's father grabbed the girl from behind him, yanking her forward as he wailed dramatically, "Tell them! Tell them how this devil in human skin hurt you!"
Daisy's eyes were bloodshot, massive tears rolling down her cheeks.
"I... Mr. Walden dragged me into the wheat fields and pulled down my pants. It hurt so much. I started crying, and he got scared someone would hear, so he stopped. He gave me six thousand dollars and told me never to tell my dad."
Yves swayed on his feet, nearly collapsing. He stared at her, his face completely drained of color.
"Daisy, why are you lying? Is someone threatening you? Who told you to lie? Tell me, I can help you."
Daisy just kept sobbing, refusing to meet his eyes.
Her father spat on the floor. "You animal! You don't deserve to be a teacher. My daughter suffered such horrific trauma, and you still have the nerve to ask? The cash you gave us has your fingerprints all over it. Stop trying to lie your way out of this."
He lunged forward again, trying to hit Yves.
Ottilie stepped in. "I am a witness. I was with him the entire day yesterday. He was never alone with Daisy, and he certainly never did anything to hurt her. I was the one who offered the financial aid for her, and I'll be the one providing it moving forward. I just didn't have cash on me at the time, so I borrowed it from him."
The father sneered. "Do you even know what you are? You've got a criminal record a mile long. Your own parents testified in court that you were kept by a man when you were eighteen. Cheap trash like you doesn't get to be a witness! Officers, they're working together! This woman's testimony doesn't count. She's mentally ill!"
