Chloe's face was a perfect mask of shock and wounded pride. "Jarrod, where... where are you taking her?"

Jarrod didn't look the least bit flustered. He merely softened his tone a fraction and explained, "There was an accident. I need to get her to a hospital."

Chloe was clearly unhappy, but seeing how pale and shaken Stella looked, she didn't throw a tantrum. Instead, she demanded stubbornly, "You've been drinking too! Let me come with you, you'll need the extra help!"

Stella couldn't even fathom the awkwardness of that car ride. Desperate to escape, she tried to wriggle out of his arms.

"Mr. Fuller, I'm really fine—"

"No," Jarrod completely ignored her protests, addressing Chloe instead. "Stay here. I'll have Julian's driver take you home later."

"Jarrod..."

Before Chloe could argue further, Jarrod was already carrying Stella down the stairs.

Stella felt entirely out of place, but the overwhelming, dominant aura rolling off of him made it impossible to refuse. Her head was spinning, so she simply bit her lip and remained silent.

His arms were corded with tension, his strides long and steady. Within moments, they were out in the brisk night air of the parking lot.

Julian must have tipped off the chauffeur, because the car was already pulled up and waiting.

The driver hurriedly opened the rear door.

Jarrod deposited Stella carefully into the back seat.

As he leaned in to set her down, the proximity was dizzying. His head brushed against her chest, and the coarse strands of his hair tickled her jaw.

Her senses were instantly flooded with his signature scent—a potent blend of sharp cedar and rich alcohol.

Stella suddenly found it hard to breathe and tilted her head back to put some distance between them.

Thankfully, the moment passed quickly. Jarrod stepped back and slid into the seat beside her.

Starting the engine, the driver asked, "Boss, are we heading back to The Sterling Residences?"

"Find the nearest hospital," Jarrod commanded coldly.
