Logan clearly hadn't expected her to wait all this time just to ask about his medical results.

He paused for a second before replying flatly, "Everything's fine."

Stella nodded. "Good. That's good."

"Logan, I know you've forgotten me, and I know you're completely satisfied with your life right now. But if I don't say this, and you regain your memory one day, you'll blame me for giving up on you without a fight."

Stella's voice was laced with profound sorrow. "I already told Skylar that after today, I will never bother you two again. But please, just give me a few minutes to finish. Okay?"

Seeing her red-rimmed eyes and the raw agony swimming in her gaze, Logan frowned, but he gave a curt nod.

Stella sniffled, fighting back her tears as she slowly recounted how her mother had died when she was little, and how he had taken her hand and promised to protect her forever.

She reminded him of how kids used to mock her teardrop mole as a curse, and how he stubbornly got a matching tattoo just to make her feel better.

She told him how he feared she'd be bullied when he was supposed to study abroad, so he relentlessly fought his father and transferred schools just to stay by her side.

And how they went to college together, supporting each other through every hurdle...

"Even though our parents opposed it, we promised to announce our relationship right after graduation. But then the accident happened right before we finished school."

By this point, tears were streaming down Stella's face. "Lolo, I don't know why you woke up loving someone else, but every word I've said is true... If you don't believe me, you can look at these photos."

Stella unlocked her phone and held the open album out to him.

Logan didn't take the phone. Staring at a sobbing Stella, an inexplicable flare of irritation flared in his chest.

Those scattered fragments she mentioned—he felt a faint, blurry echo of them deep in his mind. Yet, emotionally, he felt absolutely nothing, as if he were listening to a stranger's life story.
