"If necessary, I can go with you to talk to your grandfather," Stella added.

The moment the words left her mouth, Jarrod's face darkened violently.

"You can't even wait three months? Has the Quinn family already lined up a better backer for you?" Jarrod sneered coldly.

Stella's heart stung at the accusation, but she kept her tone completely mild.

"The Quinn family has indeed received a lot of support from the Fullers over the years, and I am deeply grateful. But I didn't mean anything by my suggestion. I just didn't want you to feel caught between me and Chloe."

Jarrod let out a cruel scoff.

"Since Mrs. Fuller is being so incredibly considerate, why don't you make sure Chloe's meeting agenda is absolutely flawless!"

Throwing a folder hard onto the desk, Jarrod stormed out, slamming the door behind him.

Leaving Stella standing there in stunned silence.

...

The next day, Stella saved the revised meeting materials onto a flash drive.

Jarrod truly cared about Chloe. Not only had he reviewed the document meticulously, but he had highlighted dozens of areas for improvement.

She had been up editing until one in the morning.

Massaging her aching lower back from where she hit the display rack, Stella tucked the slightly stained scarf into her purse, planning to find a dry cleaner after work.

Just as she slung her purse over her shoulder and headed downstairs, Mrs. Higgins found another excuse to snap at her—

Snidely commenting that while she was so tough on her own family, she didn't have the skills to actually secure Jarrod's heart.

"The man finally comes home, and you still can't make him stay. That pretty face of yours is completely useless!"

Replying would only lead to another exhausting verbal sparring match, and Stella was already sick of it.

She shoved her earbuds in to block out the noise and headed straight to the office.

During the commute, her work group chat was blowing up with notifications. It turned out Chloe had joined the group, was sending out digital gift cards, and had ordered Starbucks for the entire office.

Her colleagues were falling over themselves to thank her, praising her for being beautiful and generous.

Stella clicked on one of the digital envelopes and grabbed around ten dollars, while nearly everyone else walked away with fifty to a hundred.

It was obvious Chloe was throwing around some serious cash.
