"Personally, I think the second option is a lot more likely," Julian concluded.

Jarrod shot him an icy glare. "Weren't you the one complaining about starving? Go order the food."

"Right, right." Julian stood up and purposely shouted toward the door, "Hey, grandpa, what's on the menu today!"

Sebastian walked back in just as Julian yelled. He glanced back at him and asked, "What is wrong with him now?"

Jarrod took a sip of water, ignoring the question. "How long are you planning to stay in the country?"

Sebastian sat back down at the table and grabbed his own glass. "Depends. I have a few events to attend, but mostly I'm hoping to find some inspiration. My recent designs have felt a little lifeless."

Noting his friend's defeated tone, Jarrod offered a dry tease. "Lifeless? Like a woman crying over a stray cat?"

Sebastian gave him a lazy side-eye. "Glad you're in the mood to make jokes at my expense. By the way, my cousin has been trailing after you relentlessly, and she even followed you back to this country. What exactly are you going to do about Chloe?"

His tone turned slightly more serious. "Just a reminder, she is the apple of my uncle's eye. Whatever happens, you can't bully her or break her heart."

Jarrod continued to slowly rotate his teacup, his expression unreadable. "I know where the line is."

...

Stella took a cab back to The Sterling Residences.

Mrs. Higgins, knowing that Jarrod wouldn't be home for dinner, hadn't bothered to prepare a separate meal for her.

Stella could manage pressing a juice or throwing together a salad, but her actual cooking skills were virtually nonexistent.

Worse, her severe food allergies meant she couldn't risk ordering takeout.

Settling for a washed apple from the fridge as her dinner, Stella headed upstairs.

She retrieved the White Jade Peace Knot Amulet and the delicate cording she had purchased and sat down to weave the intricate lanyard.

Even though Skylar Vance and Logan Lennox wouldn't invite her to the birthday party, Stella still wanted to prepare a gift for Logan and hand-deliver it to him.
