“Looks like Jarrod is finally learning how to dote on his wife!” Silas teased with a chuckle.

Watching Stella's slender back disappear into the kitchen, Jarrod furrowed his brow but said nothing.

Soon after, the butler helped Grandpa Fuller to the head of the table. Once he picked up his silverware, everyone else began to eat.

Stella only took her seat after placing the freshly blended juice right next to Jasper's plate.

During dinner, Arthur went around the table, routinely asking the younger generation—aside from Jarrod—about their work and studies. They all answered dutifully.

Stella's responses were equally flawless.

"Stella, I ran into your father a few days ago. He mentioned you and Jarrod are trying for a baby?" Silas suddenly asked.

Trying for a baby?

The words caught Stella so off guard she choked, barely covering her mouth in time to avoid spitting her food out. Her face instantly flushed crimson.

"Silas, she'll have nothing to do with our family in two months. Why would they be trying for a baby?" Serena interjected sharply.

"What do you know, kid? Your brother was clearly just joking about that contract. How could that ever count?"

Silas waved it off. "Stella has been a wonderful Mrs. Fuller these past three years. She and Jarrod get along fine. It's perfectly normal for them to expand the family line!"

Serena bristled. "My brother wasn't joking! He's completely serious! Right, Jarrod?"

Jarrod was in the middle of taking a glass of warm water from a maid and handing it to Stella. He acted as though he hadn't heard Serena at all.

Stella's throat still tickled. She wanted to croak out an explanation, but Arthur's authoritative voice echoed from the head of the table.

"Enough. Eat."

The chatter died instantly, and the rest of the meal passed in absolute silence.

After dinner, they joined Grandpa Fuller in the tea room for a while before everyone prepared to head home.

Stella and Jarrod had just reached their car when Serena came jogging over.
