Cassidy obviously didn't know the whole story, but seeing the fierce determination in Stella's eyes, her own competitive spirit flared up. "Alright, we stay! I'll fight this out with you till the bitter end!"
Stella: "..."
As the workday wrapped up, Jarrod still hadn't replied. Left with no choice, Stella called him.
Grandpa Fuller was notoriously strict and did not tolerate disobedience. Stella was terrified that if Jarrod didn't show up, the old man would be furious.
After a long ring, someone finally answered, but it was Arthur.
"Mrs. Fuller, the boss is in a meeting and can't take your call right now. Is there a message you'd like me to pass along?" Arthur asked professionally.
"Arthur, I sent Jarrod two texts and he didn't reply," Stella explained. "Grandpa expects us back at the manor for dinner tonight."
Arthur paused for a second before saying, "This meeting might not wrap up until after six."
Stella checked the time. "Dinner is at seven-thirty. If he heads straight over after his meeting, he'll still make it. Please tell him I'm heading to the manor now, and to make sure he comes as soon as he's done."
"Understood, Mrs. Fuller. I'll make sure he gets the message."
Hanging up, Arthur handed the phone back to Jarrod.
"Boss, your wife said—"
"I'm not deaf."
"..." Arthur took a breath. "Shall I get the car ready? If we head to Mythos Online right now to pick her up, the timing would be perfect."
Jarrod shot him a withering glare. "What exactly is she paying you to be this enthusiastic about her schedule?"
Arthur kept his face entirely neutral while screaming internally. "If there's nothing else, Boss, I'll get back to work."
...
Stella took a cab to Fuller Manor.
The sprawling estate was nestled halfway up the mountain. The traditional architecture exuded centuries of generational wealth. The meticulously manicured gardens and priceless antiques scattered everywhere were quiet testaments to the family's absolute power.
As soon as she stepped out of the car, a maid rushed over to greet her.
"Good evening, Mrs. Fuller."
